In a way, this tests the waters of viewership and probably helps the producers solidify in themselves a confidence that they can continue to spoon feed fake ass music competitions to America without showing any of the legwork, and without talking shop about anything but the vaguest of terms. The conversation is set-up by the producers, maybe Harry, and her reaction is supposed to represent the average viewer's response to a look at theory, albeit a very shallow 1 minute lesson.
